⭐️ Gold and Silver Wins at National Sprint Championships ⭐️

For club members Mick, Olivia, Ger, Kate and William, all roads led to Dunmore East last Saturday for the Boland’s BMW Hook or by Crook National Sprint Championships race; after a 2 year wait due to lockdowns, this was an eagerly awaited event and hotly contested by some of the best tri-athletes from around the country. The race featured a beach to beach 750m swim, an out and back 20km cycle on the Dunmore to Waterford road and a testing 5km run on the golf course before crossing the finish line. Yet again, some really sterling performances yielded some medal finishes and rankings. Coach Mick Macken raced his way to a National Sprint Championships gold medal πŸ₯‡ with fellow coach Olivia McCartin taking home the silver medal in her category πŸ₯ˆ and Junior club member William McDonnell’s outstanding race saw him come in 5th in the Junior category and top 20 overall. πŸ‘πŸ» On to Co Wexford on Sunday where a picturesque Rosslare strand provided the backdrop for the Pikeman Olympic standard di

⭐️ National Title comes to Athlone ⭐

Lough Cutra Castle provided the beautiful scenic backdrop to a tough and hotly contested National Championship Aquabike event last weekend, which saw Athlone Triathlon Club’s very own Coach Olivia McCartin put in an incredible performance in the women’s race earning her the first place podium and the title of National Aquabike Champion 2021.  The Olympic distance race saw Olivia complete her 1.5km swim in a superb time of 28mins 21secs and together with a swift transition and expertly executed performance on the 40km bike route, she sailed across the finish line in a total time of 1hr 41mins 56secs clinching the title.  An outstanding athlete, a fierce competitor, a passionate, inspiring and dedicated coach and the most modest and humble member of our club; we are beyond proud to have this legend as our role-model, club-mate and friend.  Join us in congratulating Olivia on her amazing achievement!  Well done Coach……you smashed it! πŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸ–€πŸ’› Read more on  triathlonireland news #athlonetr
